These symbols have a very special meaning to me… as a lover of African- American art, I was first attracted to them because of their beauty and rich African history. As I learned more about them I realized they spoke to me at a very deep level. These Adinkra symbols were first used as decorative elements in one of the most highly valued, hand-printed and hand-embroidered cloths of West Africa. The cloth was used exclusively by royalty and spiritual leaders for very important sacred ceremonies and rituals.
